Artist Statement
I’m interested in the tension between the wildness we carry inside and the versions of ourselves the world asks us to become.
My paintings grow from this space of friction—between instinct and restraint, aliveness and containment. Through layered fields of saturated color, gesture, and shifting structure, I build surfaces where control begins to loosen and something more untamed starts to emerge. Visible brushwork, disruption, and moments of rupture move through the work like evidence of what refuses to stay quiet.
I’m drawn to the instant when a painting stops behaving and starts to feel alive—when order breaks open and something more honest slips through. These moments aren’t about narrative or explanation, but about presence: the physical, emotional experience of something stirring beneath the surface.
At its core, my practice is about what we suppress in order to function, and what still insists on being felt. I paint to follow that edge—the place where the wildness inside us pushes back against the life we’ve been taught to live.

Bio
Painting has been a through line in my life.
I studied both Fine Art and Journalism/Advertising at UNC Chapel Hill, drawn early on to the intersection of visual expression and communication. Art was never something I left behind. While building a decades-long career in design, marketing, and brand strategy—including years helping technology companies define their identities and tell their stories—I continued to paint, always returning to the studio as a place of curiosity, experimentation, and possibility.
My professional life taught me to think deeply about visual language: how color creates emotion, how composition directs attention, how an image can communicate more than a single spoken word. Painting became a different kind of language—less concerned with certainty and more interested in instinct, ambiguity, and discovery.
After years in Austin, I eventually returned to North Carolina and made the decision to pursue painting full-time. Today, I work from my studio in Chapel Hill, creating contemporary abstract paintings in acrylic and mixed media.
